FIELD NOTES / WALKTHROUGH
QUICK ANSWER
Turn your starter farm into a stable Spring income engine.

Days 1–2: tighten the farm loop

Keep watering every planted tile before anything else. Ship overnight sales, then reinvest in potato or turnip-class quick crops if you need immediate cash, or push strawberry roots if Pierre-equivalent stock already offers them and you accept slower first payout for stronger multi-harvest returns. Compare margins on best money crops before committing your last Tesserae.

Accept one or two request-board tasks that match crops you already grow. Decline cross-map errands for single items unless the Tesserae reward clears 200 and you pass the destination anyway.

Introduce yourself to any villagers you missed on day zero. Friendship is incremental; missing two days now costs heart events months later.

Days 3–4: buy the shovel

The shovel unlocks dig spots, artifact nodes, and certain farm cleanup tasks. Aim to purchase it by day 3–4 once shipping income stabilizes above ~300 Tesserae per morning.

Immediately practice digging at marked archaeology sites near town. Each new artifact type belongs in the museum once; sets raise Town Rank and sometimes grant permanent bonuses. Carry a few stacks of stamina food if digs sit far from home.

Do not sell every clay or stone chunk if a request board post pays better for processed goods later— but week one is about discovery, not perfection.

Days 5–6: fishing rod and river routine

Buy the fishing rod next. Fish diversify museum donations and request-board pools. Learn one reliable spot near town so fishing never consumes a whole afternoon.

Alternate mornings: farm maintenance first, then two to four fishing casts before NPC shops close if you need bait or seeds. Donate first-catch species; ship duplicates after the museum accepts your initial donation.

If fishing minigame difficulty slows you, note that essence perks and better gear come later from magic and spells—not week one.

Day 7: review economy and Town Rank

By the end of week one you want:

  • At least 36–48 watered tiles if stamina and seed stock allowed.
  • Shovel and rod owned.
  • Three or more museum donations toward early sets.
  • Request-board completions most days.

Open Town Rank explained and identify your current rank. If you are below Rank 3, add shipping volume or donate missing commons before Spring festival prep.

Crop planning beyond week one

Spring ends faster than you expect. Transition planning belongs in crops by season, but week-one players should already reserve Tesserae for Summer seeds and one fertilizer experiment if the general store stocks it.

Multi-harvest berries dominate mid-game income. If strawberry seeds were unavailable week one, buy blueberry starters as soon as Summer stock rotates.

Animals and greenhouse (not yet, but plan)

Barns and coops require higher Town Rank and carpenter upgrades. Read animals and ranching for breed timing, but do not buy animals until daily auto-feed fits your schedule.

The greenhouse arrives after a major carpenter upgrade—see greenhouse guide and how to unlock the greenhouse when Rank and story catch up.

Story quests you should not ignore

Town repair arcs unlock bridges, shops, and mine-adjacent NPCs. If a golden marker appears on the map, prioritize it after watering. Story unlocks checklist lists gates so you never wonder why the mines remain sealed despite personal readiness.

Mines themselves need Rank 10—not week one. Still, early story steps seed NPCs who later translate tablets at floor 100.

Stamina and food economy

Cooking unlocks better stamina recovery than raw crops. Buy or forage one cheap ingredient chain (mushrooms, herbs) and keep two meals in inventory before long dig or fish sessions.

Sleep before midnight penalties if the game applies them in your version; consistent sleep also advances friendship and shop restocks predictably.

Common first-week mistakes

  • Buying cosmetic furniture before shovel and rod.
  • Shipping museum-first artifacts because they sell for high Tesserae once—sets matter more.
  • Ignoring requests that pay less but complete in one screen transition.
  • Clearing the entire farm of tiles before you can water them daily.

Next steps after week one

Continue daily request-board clears, push renown using Town Rank strategies, and expand crops toward Summer berries. When Rank approaches 10, read how to unlock the mines and mines overview so your first descent carries food, pickaxe upgrades, and seal quest items.

The first week is not about min-maxing every Tesserae—it is about building repeatable routines that survive festival weeks and bad weather without abandoning your shipping box.

FAQ / QUICK LOOKUP

Frequently asked questions

When should I buy the shovel and fishing rod?

Aim for shovel around days 3–4 and the fishing rod by days 5–6, once morning shipping regularly covers the ~500 Tesserae price without leaving you seed-broke.

Requests or farming—which pays more in week one?

Farming scales all season; requests add burst Tesserae and friendship. Accept requests that match crops you already grow, and never skip watering for a low-payout errand.

How many farm tiles should I have after week one?

Target 36–48 watered tiles if stamina allows. Quality beats quantity—every tile must be watered daily or you lose money.

Should I save for animals instead of tools?

Buy tools first. Animals shine after barn unlocks and steady feed income; see animals and ranching later.

What Town Rank should I reach by end of week one?

Many players land around Rank 2–4 depending on donations and shipping. If you lag, follow Town Rank for fast renown fixes.
