Priority one: Tool Use (Repeated)

Problem: Watering, hoeing, and tapping rocks without a repeat binding spam left-click or controller face buttons.

Keyboard fix: Bind to Mouse Button 4 (side), C, or Left Alt. Mouse side buttons preserve WASD movement; C is easy for left-hand reach if you lack a gaming mouse.

Controller fix: Bind to RB hold or Steam Deck L4/R4 paddle. Paddles keep thumbs on sticks during large field sections.

Verify: Equip watering can, hold your new binding, walk — animation should repeat without repeated clicking.

Priority two: Tool Use (Charged)

Problem: Charged pickaxe breaks and sword swings share awkward defaults with Interact, causing accidental NPC dialogue in town or failed charges in mines.

Keyboard fix: Keep Right Mouse for charged tools; move Interact to E if it currently shares right mouse. Never bind interact to the same key as charged mining if you push how to unlock mines early.

Controller fix: RT charged, A interact — if conflicts persist, swap interact to X hold disable via Steam Input action layers.

Adjust sprint if Shift also modifies chest quick-transfer — some players move sprint to Caps Lock toggle.

Create a Steam Input profile:

• L4 — Tool Use (Repeated) hold
• R4 — Sprint or dodge depending on preference
• Long press Menu — map overlay for magic tablet floor checks

Export the profile after binding so Steam Cloud restores it on reinstall.

Inventory shortcuts stay vanilla

Do not rebind Shift-click chest transfers — they are hard-coded modifiers on PC. For inventory expansion sorting days, keyboard beats controller regardless of rebinds.

Rebind after major unlocks

Adding magic, ranch whistle, or automation remote tools introduces new wheel slots. Re-open settings after greenhouse quests and assign numbers you will remember during seasonal crunch.

Ergonomics for essence grinds

If you farm essence for best early perks via fishing schools, move repeated bind to a low-force key to reduce RSI. Alternate mine and farm days physically — controller one day, keyboard the next — if hands feel tight.

Testing checklist

1. Water twelve tiles without clicking per tile.
2. Charge pickaxe on a mine rock without opening elevator UI.
3. Talk to NPC with interact key without charging hoe.
4. Split stack with Ctrl+right-click unchanged on keyboard.
5. Throw junk with G on a safe item.
